Electronics exports at third run – Electronics Exports at Third Place

Electronics became the third largest export sector in FY 2025 with a great export of Rs 3.27 lakh crore ($ 38.6 billion). This is an increase of 36 per cent as compared to the previous year’s Rs 2.41 lakh crore. With this, electronics (which was in fifth place in the order of export in 2023-24), now leaving behind drugs and pharmaceutical (Rs 2.57 lakh crore) and gems and jewelery (Rs 2.52 lakh crore), has come in third place after petroleum goods (Rs 5.34 lakh crore) and engineering (Rs 9.86 lakh crore). Electronics export was at seventh place when the PLI scheme was announced in the year 2019-20. The Electronics Top-10, which includes the third place race, has become India’s fastest growing export sector.

India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) Chairman Pankaj Mohindru said, “We are excited by this success, but would like to retain efforts even further. The Prime Minister needs major policy changes in the areas of tax, fee and industrial infrastructure to complete the $ 500 billion vision by 2030. The biggest rise in electronics has come due to mobile phone exports, which was more than $ 2 lakh crore in FY 2025, which contributed 61 percent to this great growth. 85 percent of the growth came from export of mobile devices.

Apple Inc.’s iPhone contributed significantly to export iPhones worth Rs 1.5 lakh crore, which was 45.8 percent of the total electronics exports in FY 2025. Electronics and Information Technology (IT) Minister Ashwini Vaishnav reacted to the performance of the region, saying, “Electronics construction increased by five times in the last decade and exports have increased by six times during this period.”
