The scheme focuses on 1,000 government ITIs. In this sequence, agreements will be made by revival of trades related to the industry.

The scheme was announced in the Union Budget 2024-25 and will be five years. 60,000 crore rupees will be spent under this scheme. In this, the center will invest Rs 30,000 crore, the state will invest Rs 20,000 crore and the industry will invest Rs 10,000 crore. In this, up to 50 percent tool will be made available at the same level in collaboration with Asia Development Bank and World Bank.

After the approval of the Union Cabinet, the government statement said, “Financial assistance provided under various schemes in the past was insufficient in achieving the full upgradation target of ITI. It was especially incomplete in meeting the needs, capacity expansion, capital intensive and growing investment needs of new times. To overcome this, this proposed scheme requires requirement of need -based provisions. In this sequence, money will be easily allocated in each institute for selected infrastructure, capacity and trade related needs.

Apart from this, the cabinet approved the establishment of five national excellence centers of skill excellence and will be established in five National Skills Institutions (NSTI) in Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kanpur and Ludhiana. In this connection, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced in her budget speech in February.

The first NSTI in the country was announced in 1963. Right now there are 33 such institutions in the country. Trainees are mainly trained in NSTI.

The goal of ITI Upgradation Scheme is to develop the skills of 20 lakh youth through these courses. This will focus on meeting the need for human capital in industries. The aim of this scheme is to ensure harmony between local labor force supply and industry demand. In this sequence, industries including MSME have to provide facilities so that they get workers ready for employment.

The statement said, ‘Long -term challenges associated with infrastructure, relevance of courses, employment and commercial training will be resolved. The goal of this scheme is to fulfill the needs of skilled human labor towards becoming the global manufacturer of the nation and the superpower of innovation.
