Tata Steel will cut 1,600 jobs – Tata Steel Will Cut 1600 Jobs

Tata Steel announced a plan to cut 1,600 jobs in the Netherlands as part of a change program as it is struggling with rising costs amidst economic uncertainty. The operation of Tata Steel Netherlands was affected due to a delay in reeling of a blast furnace in FY 24. The production capacity of liquid steel in FY 25 was around 67.5 lakh tonnes per year.

Tata Steel said in a statement that the situation of challenging demand in Europe has affected the operational cost and financial performance due to the increasing costs of geopolitical developments, trading and supply chains and increasing costs of energy. The company said it is committed to ensuring that its operations of the Netherlands achieve their ability to become the most competitive, successful and skilled in Europe.

The company said that to achieve this target, Tata Steel Netherlands (TSN) has adopted a comprehensive change program based on the multidimensional approach to maximize production capacity, reduce fixed costs and to streamline products and margin.
This restructuring is expected to eliminate 1,600 roles related to management and supporting work. TSN has a total workforce of about 12,000 employees in Europe, out of which 9,000 are at the Emuden workplace. Tata Steel today has presented a request to the Central Working Council for this change plan and has been informed to labor organizations.
